Your First Visit

Every smile starts with an initial consultation!

Your initial consultation will give you the opportunity to meet our team, learn more about orthodontics, receive a complete initial exam and find out what treatment options might best meet your needs. During your initial consultation, we will:

  • Review your dental and medical history forms
  • Provide a complete oral exam and TMJ evaluation
  • Complete an airway evaluation
  • Help you create a customized treatment plan

Our team will be glad to answer any questions you may have, and we will provide all of the information that you need to determine which treatment is right for you. Please contact our practice to schedule your initial consultation.

ORTHODONTICS IN 3D IS NOW THE STANDARD OF CARE AT SCHER ORTHODONTICS

Our office is committed to ensure the utmost patient comfort and exquisite results with the least amount of treatment time possible. 3D diagnosis is now the standard of care through the use of Cone Beam Computerized Tomography(CBCT).

If you are a 3D patient, shouldn’t your orthodontic treatment be also? We have acquired a CBCT scanner (Next Generation iCAT T™) with advanced imaging software from Anatomage Corp. (Invivodental). All records are taken right in our office for your convenience. This revolutionary approach reveals 3D diagnostic imagery of your case.

THERE IS A CHARGE FOR THESE 3D RECORDS.

What happens after the initial consultation?

When 3D records are taken we will send these records to Anatomage Corp. We will have digital models created (no messy alginate impressions). We will analyze all the 3D information and set up a treatment conference.

We may start your comprehensive records session by taking a low dose, 4.8 second or 8.9 second CBCT iCat ® scanner along with digital facial and intraoral photographs.

What happens at the Treatment Conference?

The treatment conference is about one hour long and usually takes place one to two weeks after the 3D records are taken. We discuss all financial information, insurance options, and payment plans.

A well informed patient makes a great patient, which is the key not only to successful results, but to a positive patient experience throughout treatment. During the treatment conference, case details will be discussed as well as the risks, benefits, and alternatives to orthodontic treatment. We will discuss treatment costs and payment options at this time. THERE IS NO SEPARATE CHARGE FOR THIS VISIT.

Scheduling Appointments

Visiting the orthodontist about every four to eight weeks is an important part of your orthodontic treatment. Our practice will work with you to make sure that your appointments are as convenient as possible. When scheduling appointments, please let us know what days and times work best for you.

We understand that “life happens”! If you're running late or need to reschedule, please let us know and we will do everything we can to accommodate you. When you're ready to schedule your first appointment, contact our practice and our friendly scheduling coordinator will assist you. We're looking forward to working with you.

Visiting the dentist during orthodontic treatment

It is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every six months, even during your orthodontic treatment, for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure that you are receiving the best care possible.
